The portable CMM with high resolution digital camera for 3D process analysis

AICON's DPA systems are portable coordinate measuring machines that use a digital camera for data collection. The are applied both for the 3D inspection of components and for 3D process analysis, for example for analyzing deformations of sheet metal and plastic parts.

3D Industrial Measuring System

Industrial metrology is a basic component of modern production processes. It is a tool for production control, quality inspection and in the development process.
The mobile 3D measuring technology offers the possibility for onsite inspection and error detection without time consuming interuption of production lines. The transportation of parts to CMMs is also unnecessary. AICON's portable 3D inspection system DPAPro offers these advantages.

Measuring Principle

AICON's DPAPro is a portable 3D measuring device with a high resolution digital camera as acquisition device. The object is captured from different viewing directions to get a complete coverage of any kind of object. These images were processed afterwards (offline processing) or simultaneous (online processing) with the powerful software on a standard notebook to calculate the 3D coordinates of all relevant geometry points.
The calculation is based on the principle of spatial image triangulation ( photogrammetry) and is processes fully automatically. No pre-calibration is necessary due to an integrated simultaneous calibration procedure which ensures an alltime actual calibration set.

Measuring System

The heart of the metrology system is the software package DPAPro.This software package allows a complete automated processing of digital images independet of the recording device. The software is easily adaptable to any kind of measuring task and so fulfils all user requirements. In addition to the 3D coordinates DPAPro offers comfortable statistical analyses of the results with specific accuracy information about every coordinate. This allows an instant evaluation of the quality of the measurments.The postprocessing of the measured 3D coordinates is done with AICON 3D Studio. The AICON 3D Studio offers tools to calculate geometry elements or deformation analyses based on the measured coordinates. As recording device a high resolution digital camera is used.

Signalisation

The object to be measured is signalised at all geometry relevant points with targets or targetted adapters. A large variety of adapters allows the signalisation of almost every point, even hidden points, points in holes, points at bottom sides of parts etc.
The use of high precision calibrated and certified scale bars allows the traceability to national and international standards.

Applications

The field of application of AICON's DPAPro is very wide and covers objects from some centimeters up to several metes. E.g. in shipbuilding object up to a size of 30 - 40 meters. Due to the unsurpassed flexibility which is originated by the free held camera AICON's DPAPro is specially dedicated to large objects which cannot be moved to a CMM. Especially in a narrow environment or hazardous areas the freehand camera offers short times onsite and a maximum flexibility with out using fixed instrument stations.The powerful software delivers the results alrady a few minutes after the last image is taken.
